Huawei’s Mate 8 smartphone is set to launch in the Australian market, with Huawei today advising it will be available from next week.

The Mate 8 sports a 6″ full-HD display, is equipped with a 16 MP main camera with optical image stabilisation and an 8 MP front camera, comes with a fingerprint sensor, and is decked out with a 4,000 mAh battery.

Huawei states the battery will deliver regular phone users up to 2.26 days’ power consumption, while heavy users will have up to 1.57 days of non-stop battery life.

The Mate 8 runs Android Marshmallow 6.0 and is powered by a Kirin 950 octa-core (4 x 2.3 GHz A72 and 4 x 1.8 GHz A53) processor.

“With superior advancements in technology and a focus on seamless design, the Mate 8 is one of the most powerful smartphones ever made,” Marc Di Giacomo, Huawei Australia’s head of consumer marketing, commented.

“The Mate 8 reinforces Huawei’s ongoing commitment to deliver the best in advanced technology, seamlessly integrating into modern day life and enabling customers to stay connected on the go.”

Priced at $899, the space grey Mate 8, with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB ROM, will be available from May 24 at Huawei Experience Zones along with select JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman and Allphones stores across Australia.

Until July 5, Vodafone customers will receive two months of free access fees on selected Vodafone 24-month plans, starting from $15 per month on Vodafone’s $40 Red plan.

Huawei states that customers can pre-order the Mate 8 from all 10 Huawei Experience Zones within select Westfield centres across the country, with pre-order customers to also have the option to receive a free Huawei Band valued at $129 or a Huawei Talkband B2, valued between $149 to $169, depending on choice of colour.
