As many Samsung fans know by now, the company’s future flagship phones the Galaxy S8 and S8 Edge are already in the works and should be emerging by the beginning of 2017 with specs that are even more spectacular than those of the current and already powerful Galaxy S7 phone series.

However what could really be impressive about the upcoming S8 phone line is that those awesome specs they’ll definitely come with might also include a whopping 6GB of RAM and a 4K AMOLED display along with some other very cool camera technology features.

That at least is what the latest rumors and speculation about these very near future flagship phones are claiming, with quite a bit of similarity to rumors we’ve already reported on the also anticipated Samsung Galaxy X phone for 2017.

There is some plausibility to the 4K display reports, particularly to the possibility of 6GB RAM capacity but even for the speculation about a 4K AMOLED display, Samsung has good reason to go ahead with the move considering how common 4K resolution is becoming in all types of display devices and as a nearly standard feature in all flagship smartphone cameras at this point. This is not to mention that if any company knows 4K well its Samsung, as one of the absolute leaders in this resolution when it comes to TVs, PC monitors and even cameras.

Furthermore, the other major leader in the 4K TV and phone market for North America, Sony, has already gone ahead with a 4K phone release which came in the form of the late 2015 Xperia Z5 Premium smartphone with ultra HD display.

Samsung for its part has not actually confirmed or denied any of the speculation around the S8 phone lines but what other sites like Valuewalk and trustedreviews.com have claimed is that the S8 is very likely to feature a 5.2 inch Super AMOLED screen which will at least deliver 2K resolution.

Other major possibilities for the highly anticipated 2017 flagship S8 phones include an Iris scanner that allows security identification based on eyes instead of fingerprints (which are now a common thin in high end Android smartphones today) and an all-metal body design. Furthermore, the S8 phones will likely feature the next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 chipset, built with a new 10nm chip design that’s not only more powerful but also much less power hungry.

And if the S8 includes the Snapdragon 830 chipset, it will likely come with Snapdragon X16 technology built into it. X16 is a truly impressive new 14nm-built modem technology that supports “fibre-like” LTE Cat. 16 download speeds of more than 1Gbps which leave the current X12 modem speeds of no more than 600Mbsp in the Snapdragon 820 chipset used in the Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG’s G5 flagship phone in the dust in terms of speed.

Qualcomm has at least managed to confirm already that their major phone manufacturer clients are sampling Snapdragon X16 technology and some of the first products with the new modem technology will emerge in the second half of 2016.

There are also some expectations that the Galaxy S8 phones will include a USB-C port, the same waterproofing technology that’s so impressive in the current Galaxy S7 phone and a 12 megapixel photo camera with Samsung’s completely unique and very impressive “Dual Pixel” technology. “Dual Pixel“ on the Galaxy S7’s image sensor means two photodiodes instead of one per pixel and the biggest advantage of this pixel count is faster and much more comprehensive focus. When you’re taking a photo with an iPhone, between 5% and 10% of the pixels are used for focusing. But with the Galaxy S7 and its “Dual Pixel” technology, every single pixel is able to participate in focus.

So to summarize, there’s lots to expect with the 2017 Samsung Galaxy S8, from 4K AMOLED display to an amazing built-in camera to some massively enhanced internal modem and chipset enhancements. We’ll have to wait and see.
